Mercedes B Class - Full Paint Correction & Interior Detail

A local Sky installation company called AV Contractors booked their car in for full paint correction and interior detail. With the vehicle being about three and a half years old, the paintwork had begun to lose its luster. The decision was made to detail the vehicle, as the client was keeping it for the next few years and thought that the additional time and effort required for paint correction would be worthwhile.

We started with the wheels which were pre-soaked with an alloy wheel cleaner, agitated with various brushes and rinsed.

After the whole vehicle was rinsed down a degreaser was applied to the lower half of the vehicle including the arches, door and boot shuts and then rinsed. Using the 2 bucket method and a lamb’s wool mitt the rest of the vehicle was washed and then dried with the aid of a drying agent.

Once dried, we proceeded to clay the entire vehicle including the windows and wheels. The vehicle was then rewashed and dried.

We then assessed the paintwork and measured the paint with our depth gauge, this gives us an indication of the paintwork's condition, for example if there has been any prior damage to the vehicle and any areas we may have to pay special attention to. Once the reading had been taken we set about masking the whole vehicle and then Mick proceeded with the correction process.

Starting with the bonnet we applied a Meguiars medium compound with a medium grade pad as the vehicles' paint finish was flat (not very good for metallics) and after a few passes increasing the machine head speed to start the cutting process. This finally brought the original finish and appearance back to the panel. We then continued to correct the remainder of the car, which took many hours. After a close inspection we were then satisfied that the paint finish was now fantastic. (Well I thought so).

There was a fine scratch on the near side rear panel, close to the rear lens, which was removed with wet flatting and machining.

We then applied a cleanser to the paintwork before applying good quality Carnuba wax polish to finish the process and bring a final, bright, deep lustre to the car.

The faces of the wheels were then polished and sealed with Rim Wax and the tail pipe cleaned and polished with Meguiars All Metal Polysh.

Seats and carpets were washed, with special attention to the staining on the drivers seat. The plastics were then cleaned and dressed using various brushes and detailing swabs to get into those “hard to access” areas (vents etc).
Leaving only the windows to be cleaned inside and out and the tyres to be dressed, the vehicle received a final inspection before some final pictures. The whole car sparkled.
